Competition details:

The rolling dales of County Durham set the sensational scene for Headlam Hall, a Jacobean mansion, country house hotel and spa filled with open-arm warmth.

Easily reached from the nearby market towns of Darlington and Barnard Castle (both especially loved by history buffs), Headlam has become a popular rural sanctuary for various reasons. For some, it’s an idyllic romantic hideaway; for others this is a spoiling spa escape and scenic golf retreat, whilst many visit to enjoy a mini-break focused on good food and wine.

The atmosphere is relaxed grandeur, enhanced by a sumptuously styled interior that’s both classic and refreshingly uncluttered with a modern flourish. Outside is equally imposing yet inviting, comprising a four-acre walled garden, rose garden, tennis court, croquet lawn and challenging nine-hole golf course with driving range and expert tuition from an in-house pro. There’s even a kitchen garden, which readily supplies produce for the chef’s contemporary British dishes served in the light-filled, airy Orangerie and cosy Library Bar. A children’s menu is available in addition to breakfast, brunch and lunch at the Spa Brasserie located in the spa building.

The lucky winner will receive:

Accommodation for two guests in a Main Hall double or twin room
Three-course a la carte dinner each evening in the restaurant
English breakfast daily
Use of the spa facilities
